Officially done with writing Fitz and the Witch, first story of Mercerian Tales: Book 1. With the interludes, it is about 15,000 words. I enjoy how one storey naturally leads into the next, which is Beverly and the Bandit King. I already have it outlined, and expect it to be about the same length. Make sure you sign up for my newsletter, as I will be sharing a small excerpt in it next week!
I am in the process of working on Mercerian Tales, Book 1. It is a compilation of stories that are tied together, and I have all the tales fleshed out, with the first story about Fitz and the Witch almost ready for first editing. I was quite enjoying my writing time, but had to take a break. The short story that will soon be available for free is in final readings by my beta reading team, and they had some concerns. There is a scene with a fight between the protagonist and the antagonist, which I really like, but the beta readers could not understand what I was describing. Here is where the fun part comes in.
Carol, my wife, and I decided that we needed to recreate the scene so that I could talk over my description before rewording it in the story. It began with me grabbing the Obus form backrest from Carol's chair, and her grabbing a backpack so could both have "shields". After acting out the scene, our dogs really were looking at us strangely as we finished the fight with me pinning the warhammer (a ruler) between us, and Carol bashing me in the head with the backpack. What we do for our readers! |
